(a paraphrase)

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on the mountain and said:
Blessed are the poor in spirit
Not those seeking to be right
But those who know they just don’t know
Blessed are those who mourn
Not those who avoid the messy side of life
But those who walk toward the suffering
Blessed are the meek
Not those who use truth as a hammer
But those who hand a bullhorn to another, giving them a voice
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness
Not those who lie to put themselves on top
But those who want what is just for all
Blessed are the merciful
Not those who are afraid to help because they might be abetting
But those who have deep compassion when hearing another’s story
Blessed are the pure in heart
Not those who seek the façade of piety
But those with a passion for authenticity
Blessed are the peacemakers
Not those who jump to the short-term solution of taking up the fight
But those who walk down the longer road of reconciliation
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness
Not those who cry because their cultural Christian ways are fading in a diverse society
But those who are called heretical because they follow these words of Christ
